Diane Hubka on Cabaret
For me, Cabaret is a celebration! It always feels like a special event to continue realizing my dream of singing to an audience, sharing the songs I love, and passing on the "aural" tradition - and the joy I feel - when I hear and sing and play this music. Whether it's for a big hall full of people, or one couple sipping wine at the end of an evening, it pleases me to think I can make a contribution to enhancing the "quality of life" by creating the music - because I know it enhances mine! I loved learning that music is made of sound waves - literally, physical waves, so that when you hear music, you are actually physically connected to its source! Of course, we know it connects us emotionally ... and I think also to the past and future. So, in this way, I believe I can live my life spiritually, through singing and playing jazz music. I also love history, and I feel a sense of responsibility to research and discover some of the "under-done" tunes, and to learn about the great historical performances and recordings, then try to put my own 'spin' on them. I want to help carry the music on, and and keep it ALIVE! I'm so grateful to the supporters and listeners and fellow artists who share the passion with me, and help keep it all going!
